Education Stakeholders Call for Increased Investment in Public Schools

Education stakeholders in Somalia have called for increased investment in public schools, citing the need to improve learning conditions and expand access to quality education.

Officials from the Ministry of Education stated that efforts are underway to strengthen school infrastructure, recruit qualified teachers, and update learning materials. They noted that expanding access to education remains a priority, particularly in rural and conflict affected areas.

Teachers’ representatives highlighted challenges including overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, and teacher shortages. They stressed that addressing these issues is essential to improving learning outcomes and reducing dropout rates.

Parents and community leaders have also expressed concern about barriers to education, including affordability and distance to schools. Some communities have initiated local efforts to support school attendance, though stakeholders emphasised that sustained progress requires government led interventions.

Education experts observe that investment in public education is critical to long term social and economic development. They note that coordinated action among government institutions, communities, and partners can help strengthen the education system.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to advancing education reforms as part of broader development objectives.
